Thick Cut Veneer
Thicker veneers are a particular Mundy Veneer speciality. These different thicknesses are available across a number of species, including the popular Oak and Walnut. Originally veneers were sawn cut to around 1.5mm, but with the invention of more precise veneer slicing machines, the standard thickness was reduced to 0.6mm or less.
In addition to this standard thickness, we can also offer 0.9mm, 1.4mm and 2.4mm thicknesses, in different grades depending on the usage. These thicker cut veneers are used for lamination, flooring, stair treads and risers, skirting and thresholds.
They also offer a useful option to sandblast to create a deeper, more rustic grain and they offer durability for curved surfaces, so they are often employed in the construction of skateboards and surfboards.
Veneer Thicknesses
-
0.55mm
Standard face grade veneer thickness
-
0.8mm
Softwood veneer (eg Larch) thickness, to give increased strength and integrity. Use as a regular face veneer.
-
0.9mm
A common thickness for face veneers, particularly used in Austria and Switzerland, giving increased durability over the standard 0.55mm thickness.
-
1.4mm
Constructional thickness veneer which can be used in heavy wear environments. Grain can be brushed out for extra texture.
-
2.4mm
Constructional thickness veneer which can be brushed or sandblasted. Thick enough for routed/CNC details.
-
