Veneers for a Supporting Role

Backing or ‘balancing’ veneers play a crucial role in counteracting the expansion and contraction of natural wood used as face veneer.

Long after it is harvested, wood continues to breathe, absorbing moisture, leading to movement. Applying veneer to only one side of a substrate can cause it to warp or bow over time. Subject to exactly the same expansion and contraction, a backing veneer echoes this natural movement to stabilise a finished panel.

We offer a range of veneers for this specific purpose, though your choice will depend on visibility, usage etc.

More economical ‘backing grade’ veneer, such as the Walnut Satin pictured, are available along with other species such as Poplar, Gaboon, Sapele and Eucalyptus.
